Jellyfish Critic and Zombie Painters
The death of a book results in gruel. The books on the critic’s bookcase go through the funnel and turn into gruel. The critic prefers translated books that pretend to offer new theories but on close reading lack substantive content. Once the books are in the funnel, they are chopped up sentence by sentence, and then become gruel that is made up of sentences whose national identity is unknowable because save for the postpositional particles, they are filled with foreign and abstruse expressions. The gruel goes in through the critic’s tentacles that are connected to the body with the pipes and become the critic’s raison d'être. The critic opens wide a transparent screen protecting the tentacle and marches forward by quickly contracting. Then the critic halts his/her movement and sinking low under the sea, searches for an artist S/he can attack. The two big electromagnetic radiation detectors installed on the bookcase spin around loudly like a police siren and as a wild beast would first of all attack a helpless fawn, s/he would likewise first capture a beginning artist on his/her radar screen. Once the young artist has been caught, s/he strikes his/her head with his/her famous tentacles. Poison spreads through the young artists and they are deprived of their most precious freedom of imagination, and can only produce works that are banal.
